Conserving Ground Water

As a resident of Andhra Pradesh. I have seen the havoc caused by floods recently.

It was horrible. I observed that making drainages with concrete caused this problem. Not only drainages, even roads and buildings have also caused this problem. The rain water which normally percolates below the ground was prevented from doing so by the concrete on the roads. As a result, the rain water accumulated on the roads, thus causing floods.

Moreover, this region was affected more since it did not have trees and sufficient green cover. This is also the main cause of flash floods. In such regions, earth loses its sinking capacity. So, water overflows into villages, thus causing such disasters.

I would suggest that we should appeal to our local governments to impose a law which makes it mandatory for every household to build a sinking hole, so that

1) The rain water can be conserved.

2) The land can be converted to an arable land suitable for agriculture, with abundant groundwater resources.

3) Such calamities don't occur suddenly without giving time for people to react and take precautionary measures.

I would also like to consult my muncipal authorities and ask them to start a campaign for planting trees, and digging groundwater pits.
